The days are finally getting longer and warmer and that means more outdoor activities. And more outdoor living means more propane use. Why? Because using propane for outdoor living gives you the versatility and reliability to increase your comfort and extend your outdoor living season.

The Many Ways of Using Propane for Outdoor Living

What comes to mind when you hear the words propane and outdoors? Just those small 20lb tanks that fuel your barbecue grill? If so, then you probably aren’t getting the most out of your outdoor spaces. Propane is used to power a wide variety of outdoor conveniences. And it does so without the exorbitant costs of electricity or the complicated set up of natural gas.

Grills and Outdoor Kitchens

Outdoor kitchens and grills are the quintessential symbol of summer. Whether it’s Memorial Day, 4th of July or just a Saturday afternoon, we all enjoy a barbecue with family and friends. Admit it, you can practically smell those burgers now. A survey by Home Hearth and Patio found that 61 percent of outdoor barbecue owners use liquid propane to fuel their grills. Propane grills are easier to clean up than charcoal grills and they are safer and easier to regulate. A propane grill typically uses a small propane tank that can easily be replaced or refilled at local supermarkets, hardware stores, gas stations or through propane exchange programs, like Levco’s.

Fireplaces and Fire Pits

Fireplaces and fire pits are relaxing gathering places. But the cleanup from wood burning units can make you think twice about using these. Even if you are craving a toasted marshmallow.

Propane provides a clean and smokeless burn, so not only is there no messy ash, but you also won’t need to worry about smoke blowing in your face. That means you can enjoy cooking up smores without smelling like a campfire in the process. And, with propane units you don’t need to keep adding logs to the fire or make sure the embers have died down before you can safely walk away.

Pool & Spa Heaters

Even on a warm day, that first plunge into an unheated pool can feel a little like a polar bear plunge. According to the Red Cross, pool water temperatures should run between 78 and 82 degrees. Any cooler than 78 and you may come out of the pool shivering. Any warmer than 82 and you may feel like you’re taking a bath. And of course, the very definition of the word outdoor spa means soothing heat. The recommended temperature for hot tubs is between 100 – 102 degrees Fahrenheit, making a reliable heater and fuel source a must.  A propane heated pool or spa lets you enjoy them in the cooler fringe months and gives you a reliably comfortable dip in the warmer months as well. Propane heaters are smaller compared to their electric counterparts, and they heat up water much more quickly, and are usually more cost effective.

Patio Heaters

Outdoor heaters are a familiar site at restaurants who want to make outdoor diners comfortable on a chilly night. But patio heaters have grown in popularity for home backyards almost as much as for commercial use. And some are so powerful and efficient that you can even enjoy the outdoors on a crisp late fall day.

Wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted patio heating units are perfect for dining outside on a chilly night. Portable units can be moved to where you need them most. And they usually have a range of up to ten feet. Propane heaters also have a higher heat output than electric ones. Propane is an efficient and inexpensive fuel source. So you don’t have to worry about using even the most powerful heaters to heat large outdoor spaces.

Pool House, Guest Cottage and Outbuildings

Pool houses, guest cottages, and other outbuildings are often expensive to heat and maintain. Electric units suck up power and don’t offer a cost-effective or efficient way of heating these spaces. Propane, on the other hand, allows you to heat and maintain the temperatures of these outbuildings efficiently and effectively. For pool parties, guest stays, or creating an optimum workspace, propane is an inexpensive way to make that space comfortable.

Flame Lighting

Flame lights not only create a warm, decorative atmosphere, but the extra illumination increases the safety of outdoor spaces. The lights ward off intruders or animals at night and prevent tripping over the garden house or decorative planter.
