Your heating and cooling systems require regular maintenance to keep them running properly. Each month the experts at Levco will share one simple task homeowners can perform to improve their systems performance and maximize its efficiency.
Tip: Keep Your Outdoor Air Conditioning Condenser Fins Clear of Debris
What you can do:
Use a small rag to gently brush away grass clippings and other debris collected on the equipment. Cut back plants or bushes that have grown around the unit.
An air conditioning compressor is the heart of an air conditioning system. It is an essential component that enables the system to cool your home by pumping refrigerant through the vapor-compression cycle. Although heat is a normal consequence of compression, a system that gets too hot is designed to shut down to avoid burning out. Overheating is one of the most common causes of compressor failure and a frequent reason for emergency air conditioner service calls. While internal components and changes in pressure levels can cause a compressor to overheat, the most likely cause is poor ventilation.
Chances are you have never thought the grass clippings or leaves your landscaper throws up against your air conditioning condenser has any bearing on the appliances efficiency. Compressors need adequate space to dissipate heat. Your outdoor condenser(s) should be free of leaves and debris. Fences, bushes, or noise barriers should be placed no closer than 2 feet from the sides of the unit to ensure proper airflow and allow for service access.
If your compressor has adequate ventilation and continues to overheat and shut off, you might need the assistance of an experienced air conditioning technician. Give Levco a call to schedule a time for one of our expert technicians to perform any required air conditioning maintenance. The technician will ensure that your unit has the proper level of refrigerant and that the compressor and related parts are operating as they were designed. We can also check your entire system for other potential problems causing your air conditioning equipment not to run at its peak efficiency.
